KVASER Arcus 100/1000BASE-T1 H-MTD Automotive Ethernet Media Converter

The “Arcus” automotive Ethernet data converter from Kvaser is a simple and reliable solution for high-performance data conversion between automotive Ethernet 100/1000BASE-T1 and standard Ethernet 100/1000BASE-T, and vice versa, in full-duplex mode. Applications include laboratory testing, vehicle development, and system startup workflows. The transparent back-to-back PHY architecture provides deeper insight at the connection level and enables precise analysis of the physical layer’s behavior during development and validation.

The KVASER Arcus 100/1000BASE-T1 H-MTD Automotive Ethernet data converter was primarily developed for embedded applications. For use in a PC, Kvaser offers an ATX mounting bracket (EAN 73-30130-01811-2). Alternatively, a separately available enclosure (EAN 73-30130-01813-6) is also available, allowing the Automotive Ethernet data converter to be used portably anywhere.

Key features of the Arcus Automotive Ethernet Media Converter:

  • Monitoring of automotive Ethernet traffic from a data logger or test PC during vehicle development and testing
  • Flashing of ECUs via Automotive Ethernet and IP/Ethernet-based protocols by connecting the vehicle network to a development PC
  • Access to link-layer information for debugging tasks via parameters available at the PHY layer, such as connection status, speed, and signal quality
  • Transmission of specially created Ethernet frames to test ECU behavior, connection stability, and protocol processing
  • Evaluation of secure communication behavior by observing the characteristics of the MAC layer and verifying robustness against invalid or unexpected traffic
  • Verifies cable integrity using SQI (Signal Quality Index), BER (Bit Error Rate), and integrated cable diagnostics to detect short circuits, open circuits, and mispairs
  • Enables testing of subnetworks by allowing a PC application to simulate expected connection activity when no ECU is present
  • Verification of communication flows between control units and bootloaders during the early boot phase at the first system startup
  • Intuitive API and user interface for adjusting PHY settings and configurations via USB
  • Compliant with the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the recommendations of the Open Alliancee
